WAI PA AND THE COUNTIES ACT.

Pursuant to advertisement a meeting of ratepayers of the Ransiaohia Highway Distiiet was held in the Public Hall, Te Avramutu, on Saturday, 9th inst., at 7 p.m. — The meeting was well attended, nearly all the principal landowners in the district being present. — Mr W. Slo.ine was voted to the chair, and read the advertisement convening the meeting, and explained for what purpose the meeting was called. — Proposed by Mr T. Hunt, and seconded by Mr W. Bond, " That in the opinion of this meeting it is deniable in the interests of the ratepayers of this district, that the Waipa County Council be suspended, and that the councillors i^presenting this riding, namely, Me&sis R, Bruce and T. B. Teasdale, be requested to resign their seats in the council forthwith." — Carried unanimously. — Proposed by Mr J. H. Mandeno, and seconded by Capt. W. S. Rutherford, " That in the opinion of this meeting the chairman of the local board be requested to ha\e the distiiet canvassed with a view of obtaining signatures of ratepayers to give effect to the foregoing resolution." Carried unanimously.— Proposed by Mr J. A Bertram and seconded by Mr H. Lewis, " That the chairman of this meeting be requested to foiward these resolutions to the chairmen of the several boards in the Waipa County, with a view of obtaining the opinions of the ratepayers of their respective districts thereon." Carried unanimously. — Mr J. H. Mandeno briefly addressed the meeting, and was sorry to find that the county council did not do the work that he once anticipated they would do, namely, the whole of the work that was necessary to the interest and welfare of the people. He must concur with the view s of the chairman that there are too many governments, and that one constituted body vas quite sufficient to do the work of the district A cordial vote of thanks to the chairman for the steps he md taken in the matter, bi ought the meeting to a close.
