RAG LAN.

We are again suffeiers from the protracted absence of the steamer which attempts to offer us communication by sea between here and Onehunga. She has now been absent for more than a month, whereas she is supposed to visit our poi t fortnightly. In consequence of thi*. we ore put to considerable inconvenience, and will soon have to carry provisions from Waikato if she does not put in sin appearance at; an early date. Theiewasa lumour afloat a few days since that she was wrecked ; this has, however, turned put to be untrue, and when it suits the interest of her owners we will piobably see her here.

Raglan-Kawhia Road. Three miles of this road are now nearly finished, ami budges are boing elected acioas some of the creeks. Too much wet weather hinders the work from progressing so rapidly as it otherwise might. An early commencement is to be made to the next section of the work, on completion of which the formation of the road through the native territory will be gone on with. As far as the attitude of the Maoris is concerned, there does not appear to be any Jikqlihood of objections being laiscd by them-

Whaingaroa Road Board, At the annual meeting of the ratepayers in the above district, Mr 0. Sutton in the qhair, it was moved by Mr S. Wilson, seconded by Mr Wright, and carried unanimously, "That the chairman be instructed to write to the Government, drawing their attention to the fact that the sum of money, amounting to £500, which was placed on the Public Works Estimates last session for the benefit of the Waipa and Raglan road has been allowed to lapse, and that tl\a settlers in this district would earnestly pray them to take steps to have the amount again voted next session, as the road will soon become almost impassable if some money is not spent in repairing it." If is undoubtedly of the utmost impoivanoe t,Q welfare Qf *h_ e whoje of the Raglan distviot that something should be done to put this road in a better state of repair than it is at present. Our coach service must ultimately cease if this idea is not carried into effect, and with the existing state of our steamer service, if such a result was to cgmg tp_ pass we would be simply in the same pojiitiQn" ye wppe yeay.3 ago. To avoid auoh an issue should be the desire of every resident in the district, and it is to be hoped that no exertion will be spared to induce the Government at the forthcoming session of Parliament to vote a sum of money for the purpose just indicated.— [Own Correspondent.]
