A GENTLE REMINDER.
TO THK EDITOR. iSik, — Permit me thiough the columns of your ostocmed paper to suggest to the Newcastle Road J'oaiit about to be elected, the ptopnety of advertising for the services of a competent •secretary .and collector. Although the gcntlem.au that at prc-ent fills that office may 1)3 in e\cry way efficient, the appointment should not be looked upon as a light in vittue of possession, .it all events local residents, and latepaycrs in particular, should have an opportunity afforded them of obtaining s-ueh appointments as the board may ha\e it in its power to make. I need scaicply point out that the duties and responsibilities of a road board secretary and collector under the new regime have been considerably increased, and the meetings of the board should be held at some ccntial and convenient place. The system hitherto adopted by the Newcastle Board of holding alternate meetings at either end of the district has a demoralising tendency inasmuch as the trustees, aa a rule, only attend the meetings held at their own doors. — I am, &c, A Ratjspaykr. Newcastle.
