Terrible Cyclone in America.— Mr Bradlaugh Wins.— The Oaths Bill.— Commercial Nkw Your, April 23. NE\ys has been received here that a cyclone has passed qver ( the Mississippi State, devastating several villages, and doing an immense amount of damage to property. According to the latest accounts thirty-six persons have lost their lives, and one hundred and fifty have suffered injuries of a ( mpre' or less serious nature In the appeal case, Bradlaugh v. Newdegate, judgment has been given for the appellant, and Mr. Newdegate has been condemned to day the whole of the expenses. In the House of Commons to-day Sir Henry Ja.nfes, Attorney • General, moved the second reading of the Affirmations in Lieu of Oaths Bill, and the debate is now proceeding. Consols remain at lU2g, and New Zealaud securities at the following quotations :- -5 per cent. 10-40 loan, 108^ ; 5 per cent. 18S0 loan, 106 ; 4-V per cunt. 1879-1904 loan, 102.V ; 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 102k Adelaide wheat, unchanged at 50s ; New Zealand ditto has advanced Is per quarter, and is now worth 455 ; Adelaide flour has risen to 34s 6'd. Australian tallow is firm at 44s for best beef, and 4b's for best mutton.
(Received April 2oth, 2 30 p.m.) England and Tonqtiin. London*, April 24. It has transpired that the Cabinet has decided that 1500 men shall be sent to reintorce the naval squadron which has proceeded to Tonquin in view of the outbreak of hostilities between the Fiench and the natives.
England and the Boers. In the House of Lords to-day, Earl Derby, Secretary of State for the Colonies, made a statement to the effect that the Government had received reassuring intelligence as to the policy of the Boer Government, and would after enquiry be prepared to s^rant some modification of the terms of the convention of July, ISSI, under which the Transvaal war was restored to the Boers.
