The Kihikihi Races.

As in former years, the rising township of Kihikihi has made up its mind to maintain its old .standard in sporting' circles, and after" 1 much excition on the part of the settlers an excellent race meeting has been organised to commemorate the feast of S. Patrick. The programme consists of seven event's, the principal of which me the Kihikihi Cup of 25sovs and the Handicap Hurdles of ]7sovs. As might be expected the handsome nature of the prizes has been successful in bringing together large fields and competitors of good standing. For' the Hurdles', we haVd Sportsman, Hasting^, ' Cossack, Fangb-a-lJdllagh, Waumanga, New. Clmin and Orakau. The old Te Awaniu'tu horse is particularly fancied, for the event, but we would not be surprised to see a boil over in the" shape of a victory for Cossack. If Cossack is properly ridden he will hold his own with the field. For, the Cup the entries are llewi. Doctor, Robort-thp-Devil, Oiukau, Saint, and Clover. Doctor is a dark horse, and is not very well known in racing circles, but he will require to distinguish himself to beat the Devil. Orakau also should run well for first place. The other events, with equally fair prizes, should draw good fields, and result in exciting contests. The new course has been well laid out and foimed, and as recent rains have softened the ground we do not anticipate any reason tor complaint in this respect. Doubtless, as there are few counter atti actions there Mill be a laige attendance of people from all parts of the district.
