TE A WAMUTU CA VALRY.
A MKirrixu was held on Saturday evening in the Volunteer Hall, re the new regulations. Captain Rutherford was in the chair, supported by Lieutenants R. Bruce and G. Wilkinson. The Chairman reported that the committee appointed by the troop to frame suggestions for the amendment of the new regulations had submitted such suggestions to the Under-Secretary for Defence as long ago as the 27th December. No reply thereto had been received up to date of meeting. A telegram was read from the Waiuku troop stating that their captain (Mr Hamlin, M.H.R.) had requested Government to grant additional time for the consideration of the new regulations. It appeared that the regulations had been submittecd to the Waiuku troop on the 20th October, while they had not been furnished to Captain Rutherford till the 14th December. Information was also received from the Waiuku troop that they were not at present sworn in. The sense of the meeting was then taken as to the willingness of the men to continue to serve as volunteers. Upon the ex2)ress understanding that steps would be taken to obtain a modification of the regulations, some iorty-five names were then given in to Captain Rutherford. It was lesolvcd that the Under-Secretary for Detenus be requested to afford further time foi consideration of the new reguhitions, and to reply to letter of 27th December.
