The Victorian Loan. Melbourne, January 11. Tke failure of the Victorian loan in London is attributed to the high mini mum, which is believed to have deterred wholesale applications. It is stated that the Colonial Treasurer is hopeful that the balance of the loan will be subscribed by Monday next. The local press condemn the delay which occurred in issuing the loan, thus losing a favourable ■ opportu- , nity in the London market. [Received January 12th, 1.30 p.m.] Melbourne, Yesterday. The Australian Insurance and Banking Record has an article commenting on the New Zealand loan. It draws attention to the date of issue, its minimum fixed, and says that it looks like an attempt to "jostle" Victoria, and that it is the first time in the history of the colonies that such proceedings have occurred. London, January 11. It is understood that further applications have been received for a small amount of the unallotted balance of the Victorian loan. The English, Scottish, and Australian Chartered Bank have declared a dividend of ih per cent, for the past-half-year, and carries £10,000 to reserve.
