STEALING APPLES.

Thk proprietor of the Waikato Hotel, Hamilton, seems to be regarded by burglars and thieves as their own particular quarry. On Tuesday morning, at about 5 o'clock, Mr Gaudin's cook observed a man coming out of the hotel garden, having in his pocket the product of a couple ot young apple trees. He accused him of stealing them and received an insolent reply. The matter was reported to the police, anil the man, who is a swamper, and who gave his name as Thomas Burke, was arrested by Keryt, McUovem with some of the apples in his pods-cdsion. He was brought before His Worship the Mayor yesterday, and sentenced $o a month's imprisonment. '
