The contest for the mayoralty, to-day, resulted in the reception/of Cr. .b'i&hev,; by'a inajo'rity of' 620.' The numbers'we're 1 Fhher, 812; A. Young, 192. Mr. Shaw, solicitor, has renewed Ins application to the Minister of Justice that the remainder of the sentence passed on Longhurst 'remitted. It is understood that now that the judgment of the Appeal .Court has been .delivered, the Cabinet will definitely decide whether or noi;, action should be taken with regard to reeasing Longhurst. At the meeting of the Education Board to-day, i lit was decided that the j pupils of classical or other schools for higher education be ineligible io compete for the annual scholarship offered by the board.
