WELLINGTON, Last Night. A iakge fire has occurred at Newton. It originated in a shop and dwellinghouse occupied by Mr Dodson, cabinetmaker, The flames rapidly spread to the attached premises, occupied by MiMyers j two houses (one four and the other two-roomed), owned by Mr Meadowcross, and another four-roomed house occupied by Mr F. Smith, were also destroyed.
HAWERA, Laat Night. On the occasion of a number of natives presenting Titokowaru with a canoe, he addressed them, strongly urging them to obey the laws, and not resist Government surveys preparatory to leasing the continuous reserves, even if the line passed through their cultivations.
TAUPO, Last Night. Be the injuries to a horse, now in the hands of the police, it has been fouud that an attempt was first made unsuccessfully to force the animal into the boiling cauldron, and that failing, the culprit lacerated its back with a tomahawk.
