Tuk Waitoa Highway Board at its last meeting received two tenders for tho work advertised at the Waitoa bush, viz, that of S. Binge and Co. for £34 10s, and O. Donoghue and Co. for £24 10s. The latter tender was accepted conditionally. Other tenders would have been called for before now, but for tho delay consequent on the arrangements re dividing the district. The Colonial Secretary wrote first to say that the division had been decided on but before the completion of the arrangements necessary for holding the first meeting, &c, he wrote again to aay^ that the question of dividing the district would be decided by the County Council under the provisions of the Road Board Act, 1882. As it would take some time to get the matter brought before the council, and a3 the season is advancing, I think it would be well to delay the question of division for at least a few months. At any rate, the members of the board, along with Mr T. G. Sandes, the engineer, are inspecting the road with the view of deciding what works are to be undertaken. A number of works were spoken of at last meeting for which tenders may be called for soon. Accounts at last meeting were passed for payment amounting t>» £40 odd, making over £800 paid since the Ist of July last. Arrangements are going on well for our races. — (Correspondent. )
