; The Markets. ','jt-'' Auckland, Last Ntght. ' The produce markets to-day exhibit several alterations. Coast maize, wholesale, has advanced to from 5s to 5s 6d, the retail value t beitfg" 6s -6il to" 0s per bushel'; fowl wheat, wholesale, is worth 4s* 3d to 4s 6d per bushel : potatoes are dearer ; Canterbury and Oam.iru produce sold during week from £6 to £7 per ton, wholesale, .and £G 10s to £7 10s, retail. The kauri gum market is quieter. Good ordinary is worth from £42 to £44, and Bast Coiust produce from £52 to £55. Another rise has been made in the price of certain classes of timber.
Prince Imperial. The new Prince Imperial mime manager telegraphs this afternoon: — "Five hundred weight of specimens from 'the leading slope No. 2, section west. Good gold still showing. Breaking down going on. Have started break down in second slope, No. 1 section, west, where rich gold is still showing."
Waste Lands Board. At a special meeting of the Waste Lands Board this afternoon, the chairman explained that the meeting was called for the purpose of fixing the upset prices on certain lands about to be offered for sale early next- month. --The 'lands were situated at Patutahi, Waihou, Waimate, and Wakaengaonga in the neighborhood of Poverty Bay. They comprise an aggregate of 69,029 acres. The following upset prices were fixed : — Wairoa county, 9 sections, 8622 acres, 10s per acre; Waimate, 54 sections, 5571 acres — these were dealt with under the pastoral system, to be offered on deferred payments at £1 per acre; 16 sections, containing 7867 acres, at 10s to £1 per acre for cash ; Patutahi, 23 sections, containing 21,3. - >6 acres, 10s to 15s per acre : 24 suburban sections, averaging 4 to 13 acres each, £10 per acre ; Wakaengaonga and Waihou (Whangaroa survey district), 830 acres, on deferred payments, 25& to 30s each; 46 sections, 24,595, acre5, for cash, at prices varying from' 5s to 30s per acre.
