LA ND SPEC ULA TION AT NELSON. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

Nelsox, Last Night. The Motueka correspondent of the Colonist writes : — Mr Stevens, M.H.R., for Rangitiki, has visited the district for the purpose of negotiating with some native owners resident here for a large block of land at Awatari in the Colingwood district, consisting of 40,000 acres. I think the block is 27 miles by 7 miles, and the price £10,000. Mr Stevens, who represents a company as agent, has been so far successful as to obtain the consent of the natives interested residing in thjs district, and has gone to Waitaki, Otago, accompanied by three or four natives from here, and Mr Hursthouse, M.H.R., to obtaiu the consent and signatures of owners residing there. It is expected that a Land Court will be held" here shortly.

The New York Herald's London correspondent telegraphs : "The belief that '•£3kobe}off was poisoned by- Germans has taken firm holcj of the pqpijlari injndr in Russia, and it will 'he , difficult to eradicate it. Nothing, of course, justifies the report. The medical examination *_of , the, bodyftnaadej after, death f, showed oonyineinglylthat' Skobeloffsiend was.due to apoplexy." / Ut >/s, A w ,
