The Mayor gave no hope that the act would be stayed, but promised, if possible, to prevent the issue of certificates to prostitutes on examination.

Accident to Captain Hargreaves. Captain Hargreaves, of the steamer Coromandel, was severely injured by being thrown from a spring trap.

Mr Sheehan going Overland to Cambridge. Mr Sheehan, who was a passenger per Te Anau, left the steamer at Napier, and is going overland to Cambridge. Dr. Buller came by the Te Anau, and goes to Cambridge to attend the Court.

Stawatt to sell at the Ohaupo yards on Thursday, October 19th, immediately before the cattle fj.ir, his farm of 150 acres, between Te Awamutu and Alexandra, adjoining the farms of Messrs Grierson and Rlain, and-close to MesSrs Goodfellow and Gibsons farms. The farm is said to be one of the best iq the district, is divided, into paddocks ' and laid down' in English grasses. There is also an eight-roomed house, outbuildings, &c, on the , property.
