CAMBRIDGE TO WN BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the above body was held at the Town Board Office, Cambridge, on Monday evening last. There were present : Crs. T. Wells (chairman), Hewitt, Nixon, Johnson, and Kirkwood. The usual preliminary business was disposed of. Land Court Privileges. — An application was received from H. Bucklantl, asking permission to erect a temporary wooden restaurant on the vacant allotment adjoining the Public Library during the sitting of the coming Native Lands Court.— (Jr. Johnson thought that private individuals should have an opportunity of making something out of the natives as well as people who were established in business. Pie could not see that any injustice would be done to the public generally by granting the application. — Cr. Kirkwood was of opinion that the board by granting the request would bo doing an injustice to people established in business, and who had been paying heavy expenses for many months past in expectation of being repaid by a Land Court. — The chairman and Cr. Nixon were of the same opinion. — On the motion of Cr. Kirkwood it was agreed that neither the application before the meeting nor any such application which may be made subsequently bo entertained. Cambridge - Taurancia Road. -= A telegram from Mr J, B. Whyte on the above matter, in reply to a communication from the board stating the same amount as placed on the estimates last year (£2000) would, he believed, be placed on the estimates this year. Street Improvements. — A petition was read from a number of ratepayers in Dukestreet West, asking to have the foot-path near the Navigation Company's office gravelled, but tho petition being somewhat unintelligible, it was agreed to refer it back to the petitioners for explanotion.
