The REPORTED NA TIVE DIFFICULTY AT PUA HOE.
In regard to the native difficulty referred to in the Herald of Tuesday last, as existing between Messrs Grice and Parker and the natives squatting on the Puahoe Block, Mr Grice informs us that not one of the statements contained in the report referred to is in the slightest degree correct, but that instead the whole is a tissue of misstatements. With regard to the first, that Messrs Grice and Parker had withdrawn from the land, Mr Grice states that they are still in possession of, and are cultivating the Puahoe Block. Further they have lea&cd the block from the grantees who have, without exception, signed the deed of lease, and that the natives who are squatting on the land are not, ami never were owners of it, and so it was not necessary that they should be parties to the lease. As to the statement that the native pigs destroyed the attempted cultivations of the lessees, M r Grice states that several hundred acres of the land are down in turnips, and 1500 acres are in grass, which surely shows more than an attempt at cultivation, and also that neither he nor Mr Parker have met the natives in Tawhiao's presence since the king meeting in May Jast. Mr Grice also informs us that in the statement made relative to the burning of whares the Herald has again been misled.
