ALEXANDRA RINK CLUB FANCY DRESS BALL.
The Fancy Dress Ball given by the members of the Alexandra Rink on the Ist inst., was the most successful fete ever held in this town. The members of the committee were most indefatigable in their efforts to make the ball all that could be desired. For weeks past preparations were being made to decorate the hall, and on Friday night the effect was most dazzling, heightened by the judicious display of powerful lights, an item too often neglected at such entertainments. At 8 o'clock the guests .began to arrive, and the rinkera filed in in gorgeous array from the ante-room at the end of the hull, exhibiting some very graceful figures, during which time the band played lively selections. At 10 o'clock the hall was cleared for dancing, which was kept up until 5 o'clock in the morning. The most noticeable costumes were undoubtedly those worn by the following ladies : — Mrs Gresham, "Lady Pompadour;" Miss A. Wilson, "Britannia ;" Mi&s R. Allan, " Roman Girl ;" Miss A. Hamley, " Patience ;" Miss S, Finch, " Miss Hard castle ;" Miss F. Stewart, "The Daughter of the Regiment :" Miss K. Cogswell, " Gypsy ;" Miss J. Finch, "Joy ;" Miss P. Higginson, " Dancing Girl j" Miss A. Stunner, "Fairy Queen j" Miss R. Stunner, "Folly;" Miss E. Wilson, "Shepherdess;" Miss M. Wilson, ''Norman Peasant;" Miss M. Sage, '"Spanish Lady; Mrs Hinton, " Lady Teazle ;" MrsConnell, "Night." Of the gentlemen, the following characters were very effective : — Messrs J. Martin, " King's _ Jester ;" C. Hall, " Cavalier;" It. Ahier, " Courtier Louis XVI;" J. Swarm, "Montjoy Herald;". H Benge, "Eccentric Showman;" T. Gresham, "Robinson Crusoe;" Farquherson, " Turk;" J. McCabe, "Harlequin;" C. Empson, " Day and Night;" S. Carrington, " Clown;" W. Chappell, "Brigand;" J. Chad ton, "Pirate," A. Ahier, " Mano'w.arsman ;" Wallace, "Cure ;"S. Miles, "Bugler;" J. Curley, "Harlequin;" J. Sage, "Recruiting Sergeant}" Fischer, "Sailor;" Forster, " Stockdriver ;" J. Kirk, "Sailor;" C. Finch, "Punch;" Mr J. Halls, the M.C. was very active in tho discharge of his duties, and if another ball is got up in the place, he ought to be requested to act in the same capacity. Too much praise cannot be given to the members of the community who made all the arrangements, for the successful and creditable manner in which they carried out their appointed duties. lam obliged toMrG. M. Aubin Ahier, secietary to the Rink, for the list of names and characters, and regret that for want of time he could not give me further particulars. As usual the Te Awamutu Band gave great satisfaction, being in requisition everywhere entertainments are held. Mr J. Garmonsway supplied the supper, a la Canning.. — [A Correspondent.]
