NATIVE MEETING AT KORAKONUI.

A meeting ot the natives, at which Tawhiao and many of the great chiefs were present, has just concluded. It was held at Korakonui, a settlement on the other side of Maungatautan. Rebpecting its objects a correspondent sends us the following -.—"The objects of this meeting were (1) the advisability of passing certain blocks of land through the court, and (2) Rewi's survey, which has been in progress for some time. The first lino of this survey was staited at YVhatiM'hatihoo, folloAvmg the com so of the Puniu river to Owaiiaka, ■« here it has been .stopped for the present by the ownois of the land, who say that if every man were to have his land surveyed there would bo none left for ReM i. Rewi's idea was to carry the line on from Owairaka to Te A"\\ a Kaitangata, from there to Mangai'c, where it touches the Waikato, following the course of the liver to Taupo, from thence by Tonga riro to the Tuhua (taking in the whole of that supposed El Dorado), from there on to Mokau, where it touches the coast, from there to Kaw hia, and fiom Ka-whia, by Pirongia, to Whatnvhatihoo, the startingpoint. Rewi proposes to lesene the whole of this block for the king, leaving all lands outside the line to be dealt with as the owners think fit, and that as the survey-line reaches the land of one tribe, that ttibe is to carry it on to the next, and so on until the line is completed. As Rewi has not consulted the various owners of the lands in this matter, he is likely to have some trouble in carrying out his idea — some being in favour of it and others against it. All unite, however, in saying that he should have consulted the owners of the land in the first instance. Owing to the ill-feeling engendered by Rewi's action in this matter, the subject in reference to the proposed expulbion of half-castes was not discussed, and the meeting broke up without coining to any definite understanding. My informant is of opinion that if Rewi persists in this survey there will be serious trouble."
