BALCLUTHA, Last Night. A petition to Parliament is being signed by the sufferers by the Kaitaingata clisa&ter, praying for enquiry into the administration of the relief fund.

WELLINGTON, Last Night. After prayers, Major Atkinson moved that the Speaker leave the chair so that the members may see the Governor off. All the ministers and a number of members, and a few civilians saw him leave. There was no demonstration of any sort.

INVERCARGILL, Last Night. At the Supreme Court after bearing the first charge against Mr Daniels had been heart!, Mr Stout among others raised a techical objection that neither by the indictment nor by evidence was it shown that proceedings had been commenced as required within six mouths from the commission of oifencc. His Honor sustained these, and acting under his direction the jury returned a verdict "Not guilty." Mr Stout aigued this should rule the other two charges. The Court adjourned to 3 p.m. to allow of instruction being received from the Minister of J usstice.

[I'RLSS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. The boily of a woman was found in the Avon this morning, aged about 45. It is not yet identified. It appears to have been in the water about 12 hours. The New Zealand Shipping Company held an extraordinary meeting to-day, and confirmed the resolution to increase the capital to £1,000,000.
