WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.
Thk ordinary meeting of the council was held at the chambers on Tuesday. There wore present — Crs. Hadfield, Bruce, Grice, Teasdale, Roche, and Stcele. The first business was the election of a chairman, viccMx Henry Buttle, resigned. — Cr. Roche was voted to the chair. — Cr. Teasdale proposed and Cr. Bruce seconded, " That Cr. Lake be the chairman of the council." Tins was carried unanimously ; but Cr. Lake not bemg present, Cr. Roche continued in the chair. — Cr. Steele referred to the courteous and able manner in which the chair had been filled by the late chairman, Mr H. Buttle, and moved, " That the council send a letter of thanks to Mr Buttle for his past services, and express regret at losing him as a cpuncillor and a settler." Cr Teasdale seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. A letter was received from the chairman of the Raglan Council, requesting repairs to the NYliatawhata bridge approaches, under the impression that the Government had paid over money for the purpose. The council not having any such funds at their disposal, directed the clerk to reply to that effect. — The chairman of the Te Awamutu Licensing Committee wrote complaining of the want of accommodation for committee meetings. Cr. Roche was requested to ascertain what was required and report to the next meeting. — The Public Works Department called the attention of the council to the dangerous proximity of a hut to the Whatawhata bridge in the event of fire. Cr. Hadfield was requested to make enquiry and report. — The Crown Lands Commissioner notified the council that the reserve 330, Ngaroto, was about to be brought under the Domain Act, and requested the council to nominate five persons to form a board. Cr. Bteele moved " That the chairman call a meeting of ratepayers at Ohaupo, by advertisement, to nominate ten persons to act as a Domain Board for lot 330 Ngaroto, the council to select five out of those nominated to form a board. Cr. Hadfield seconded the motion, and it was carried. — The Government circular re local government was brought up. Cr. Hadfield moved " That each councillor be supplied with a copy to be filled up, the subject to be discussed at a special meeting, to be held on Tuesday, June 13th. Cr. Grice seconded the motion, which was carried. — Mr Gilkinson wrote complaining of the bad state of the road from the Ohaupo Saw Mill to the Railway bridge. The clerk was directed to call the attention of the Pukekura Board to the matter. — The treasurer reported the issue of a conditional license to Mr H. Lewis, of Te Awamuta. — The chairman of the Rangiaohia District Board waited on the council with plans of altered roads for confirmation. This business not having been notified, Cr. Steele moved '• That a meeting" be held this day three weeks for the purpose of confirming or otherwise the proposed exchange of 'roads in the Rangiaohia District, the meeting to be advertised in The IVaihato Times. Cr: Hadfield seconded the motion, which was carried. — Mr Sandes, the engineer for the Swamp road, brought up his report upon the progress of the works. The grant not having been paid over as yet, and the contractor requiring progress payment Cr. Steele moved " That a new account be opened at the Bank for paymerit' for Ohaupo-Te Rore road,' and that £100 be advanced from , the genafal account and j>laced to separate account, the said, £loo to refunded as soon 5 a grant Shall be received from' Wellington." Cr. ■ Teasdale seconded the' motion,' which' 'was carried.
