A CHEESE AND BACON FACTORY FOR TE AWAMUTU.
A meeting of those interested in the establishment of a cheese and bacon factory at Te Awamutu,- was held in the Public Hall on Monday evening. There were aboitt fifty settlers present, and the chuir was occupied by Mr W. Sloane. The meeting had been oonvened to consider the report drawn up Sy Messrs T. Hunt, J. Scott, Churches, Jones and W. Taylor, who were appointed for that purpose at the previous meeting. The report states that a promise had been obtained frein a number of farmers to supply the milk of 400 cows at 3d per gallon, on the understanding that any profits accruing after a payment of a 10 per cent dividend to the shareholders should be divided amongst the producers. The committee also submitted a very satisfactory prospective balance-sheet, taking the above number of cows, price of milk, &c, as their basis. The report was very favourably received, and fully discussed. Captains Steele and Runciman, who attended at the request of the committee, narrated what had been done by the company lately formed at Hamilton, and detailed the further steps contemplated. It was then resolved to form a company at Te Awamutu, with a capital of £4,000 in £1 shares, Is on application, Is on allotment, and the remainder, up to half the capital, to be called up in Is instalments monthly. The following were appointed provisional directors ; — Messrs \V. Taylor, B. Parsons, Jones, Churches, Gresham, Burke, Hutchinson and J. Cunningham. It was resolved to co-operate with the Hamilton company and contribute towards the expenses attendant upon Captain Runciman's visit to America, the amount of such contribution to come out of the capital, it being considered a fair charge upon the company.
After the above meeting, a meeting of the provisional directors was held. Mr Taylor was appointed chairman, and a deputation consisting of Messrs Cunningham and Joneb was appointed to proceed to Hamilton, on Wednesday, to confer with the directors of the Waikato Cheese and Bacon Factory Company. Accordingly Messrs Cunningham and Jones came to Hamilton yesterday, and after interviewing Captain Runciman and Mr Knox (secretary of the W.C. and 8.F.C0), made the necessary arrangements for paying part of the expenses of the American trip, and gave Captain Runciman authority to procure plant, &0., while in the States.
