TE AROHA. The Mines.
Eureka.— The proprietors of this mine, being now thoroughly satisfied with the result of their recent trial crushing, have made a start to drive a low level tunnel upon the line of reef. The place selected for the starting point of operations affords many facilities, or special advantages, a crosscut not being necessary, as the lode outcx-ops, consequently every foot of driving will prove the reef. It is estimated this level, when extended uuderneath the suiface workings, will give 160 ft. of backs, so that a large amount of crushing material may be won from this tunnel. Diamond Gully. — Operations are now confined to driving on the reef, both north and south, and for the past week nearly all the quartz broken down, disclosed good dabs of gold. However, in the opinion of a good many heie, far richer gold must be won from this mine as the work progresses, seeing that splendid dish prospects of loose gold and highly auriferous quartz boulders were met with whilst piospecting was being carried on at the first opening of the field. Some of the gold I have seen from this claim should, I estimate, be worth fully £3 10s per ounce, if not more. Wabahiko Goldmining Company. — Still driving on the reef in a splendid channel of sandstone country, the lode being compact, and when broken down shows nice prospects of gold. It is now the intention of the shareholders to begin shortly a low level tunnel and otherwise well open the mine, so thac when the battery is ready to commence crushing, operations a large quantity of crushing material may be available.
