LATEST AUCKLAND NEWS. [BY TELEGRAPH. — OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Auckland, Last Night.
Mr R. Stout, of Dunedin, has been retaniocl by We Parata to defend Te Whiti and Tohu, the vi aori State prisoners, on the occasion of the forthcoming trial. Mr Stout is expected to arrive on Sunday next. The material of the new Wade public pound was destroyed by fire yesterday. It is the work of an incendiary. At Messrs Tonks' sale to-day, Mr Fenton bought five acres of land «it Whangamarino, near Mercer, for £5 10s. News has been received of the death of Martin White, son of Mr F. A. White of Auckland. He was a solicitor at Napier. Constable Collis has received intimation that he has been left an estate in Ireland worth £1,000 a-year. A well-known wine and spirit merchant is supposed to have levanted. He left town last Monday week, ostensibly for Ohinemutu, and has not since been heard of. Dv Kohl's body was recovered this afternoon amongst some rushes near Waitangi bay, and about two miles on the Waiuku side of Waipipi wharf, where his clothes were found. The body was not much disfigured. The Stttr'/> correspondent telegraphs from Alexandra : "Nothing lias y«t been done at the native meeting. Yesterday a heavy and continuous downpour of rain put an end to whatever prospect there was before of anything being done at the meeting to-day. Tawhiao is still out pigeon shooting, and must have had a bad time of it. Everybody is disgusted with the delay, not excepting Paul Tuhaere and other visitors. Hone Wera- , hiko has arrived to press Tawhiao for the fulfilment of his promise to permit prospecting. Wahanui has some rich, specimens, many of them obtained, it is said, in the vicinity of Rangitoto mountain."
