NEW PLYMOUTH, Yesterday. Wirkmu Hiroki was brought up at the Supreme Court this morning, charged with the murder of John McLean, at Momehake, on the 19th September, 1878. Mv Samuel appeared for the Crown, and Mr Richmond for the prisoner. The case is proceeding.
NELSON, Last Night. Dodson, who shot himself, on Saturday, died in the hospital, this morning.
WELLINGTON, -Last Night, Captain Ruck, formerly of Auckland, died at the Masterton hospital, last" night.
CHRISTOHUROH, Last Night. The Brass Band contest took place at the Exhibition Buildings, last night. Four bands competed and the following was the result : Timaru Artillery Band, first prize ; ' OHristchu'rch''' City ; "Guards Band, -second prize r f Christchurch Artillery Band commended. The attendance at the Exhibition;- yesterday, was 5357."
