># Through the intercession of Taurau natives, Mokoia agreed to the exhumation and examination of the Maori killed last Tuesday. A pot>t mortem examination was consequently made this morning by Dr. Smith, and the adjourned inquest was held at 2 p.m. An inspection ol the place where the body was found show& beyond a shadow of doubt, that no fracture of the skull could possibly have occurred from falling, as the road is soft and fiee from stones, The mare deceased was riding was quiet, and not in the least likely to have kicked him. Inspector James and Detective Jeffrey were present.
WESTPORT, Night. The body of Hans Christian Wilmacker, a Norwegian by birth, was found in the surf on the North beach yesterday afternoon. Deceased's mind has been affected by excessive drinking latteily, Init how he got into the water is unknown.
Mr Hall will leave for his home in Canterbury by the steamer JKotorua tomorrow. Captain Cameron, of the U.B.S. Company, was married to-day. All the shipping in port displayed bunting in honor of the marriage. A cablegram has been received from San Fiancisco that a registei'ed letter containing £200 in notes, which had been posted at Pioton for Wellington some months ago, had turned up there safely. The barque Ironside, Captain Embry. arrived from London this evening, 103 days out.
A serious mishap occurred to Cobbs coach at the bottom of the Patea Hill today. The coach was going on steadily, when the leaders shied at a dray on the road, and the coach went over a slight embankment and capsized. It was full at the time. Mr Hutchinson, a solicitor, of "Wanganui, -was severely injured, and a young lad sustained a serious scalp Mound, and is not sxpected to recover. A number of others are more or less injured. No blame is attached to the driver.
The members of the Ministry have presented Mrs Hall, the wife of the late Premier, with a handsome piece of plate, in token of the cordial relations that have existed between Mr Hall and themselves, and also to mark their appreciation of the courtesy and kindness received from Mrs Hall. The Hineinoa sailed for New Plymouth last evening. Te Whiti, Tohu, and the other chiefs awaiting trial will embark thcie, and be conveyed to Christchurch. The Hinemoa a\ ill probably call here on her way down.
