PROPOSED CHEESE AND BACON FACTORY FOR WAIKATO.
A meeting ot those interested in the cstablibhincnt of a cheese and bacon factory in the neighborhood of Hamilton, was held at the Royal Hotel, Hamilton Easb, on Saturday evening, for the purpose of considering the prospectus prepared by the provisional directors. There was a good attendance, and the chair was occupied by Mr 8. T. Seddon. — The chahman read the prospectus, which is simply an embodiment of the resolutions carried at the previous week's meeting. The area of land stated to be required for the purpose is from 50 to 100 acres. The proinoteid had obtained the necessary guarantee of 30 gallons of milk per day for eight months from ten fanners, while they had also been promised the support of others. — The meeting unanimously approved the prospectus, and it was agreed that the provisional directors would get it printed without delay, and put it in circulation. — On the motion of Capt. Steele, Messrs Hay and .Speed were appointed solicitors to the proposed company, and Mr Johu Knox consented to undei take the duties of ' honorary secretary temporarily.— Capt. Steele said, with refeience to sending a representative to America, he was of opinion that the expense of the trip ought not to be boine by the company, but should be furnished by public „ subscription. He was quite satisfied that the gentleman they proposed sending, Capt. Runciman, would during his visit to the United States acquire knowledge which would be useful not only to the whole of the Waikato, but to the colony at large. A few days before he had met a gentleman named Learmouth, au Australian, at Te Aroha, and in the course of conversation the cheese factory came up. Mr Learmouth said it would be a great mistake to draw upon the funds of the company to send a representative to America (a step which he thoroughly approved.) He (Mr Learmouth) recommended them to raise a subscription, and in the most liberal way offered £10 as his contribution. He therefore moved that a subscription ,be started. — The motion was duly seconded and carried, and the sum of- £79 w.as at once subscribed in the room.-— After some remarks on the general question from the chairman, Capt. Steele impressed tbose present with 'the duty of making 1 the objects 1 of the' proposed company as widely 1 known as possible, and' of inducing "their friends to become sup'>'porters of it. — The meeting shortly' afterwards broke. np,.
