THE CAMBRIDGE RAILWAY.
It will be remembered that some time ago a petition of residents in the Hantapu* district was forwarded to the Government, praying for a deviation of the Cambridge railway. The following letter has since been received by the petitioners :—: — Public Works Office, Wellington, 22nd March, 1882. Gentlemen, — With reference to yourpetition to the Hon. the Premier, praying that the route of the Cambridge branch railway may be so altered as to go further south, through <a portion of the Hautapu district, etc., I am directed by the Acting Minister for Public Works to inform you that, after having had careful enquiries made, the Government has decided that the line of railway as originally laid out andsurveyed should be adhered to. — I have, etc., C. T. BENZONr, ' Assistant Under Secretary for Public Works. J. H. Smith, Esq., A. Main, Esq , and other petitioners, Hautapu district, Waikato, Auckland.
