THE MINISTERS IN AUCKLAND.
Yesterday's Herald has the following : — Ministers had several conferences yesterday, when, we understand, the policy of the Government with reference to the " King " natives, the approaching meeting at Whatiwhatihoe, the railway between Auckland and New Plymouth, and other matters of minor importance were brought up and discussed at great length. The aspect of affairs in connection with the King party has materially changed within the last few weeks, and a considerable amount of information hag been obtained by Mr Bryce. This, we believe, was the chief reason for the conference of Ministers here. There is not the slightest foundation for any rumor that the Native Minister meditated anything like a coup in connection with native affairs, or that there was a danger of disruption in the Ministry. It was necessary, however, that the new position aud the new information should be fully discussed. The Government, in' the reply to he sent to Tawhiao's invitation to them to attend his meeting, will leave open the question of the Native Minister being able or unable to attend. Owing to the proximity of the date of the meeting and the opening of Parliament, it is improbable that Mr Bryce will be able to be present, but in case he can do so, it was thought desirable to leave the question open. The form of the reply was settled by Ministers yesterday.
Messrs Bryce and Rolleston are expeo ' ted to arrive in Waikato to-day and will proceed overland to Rotorua, visiting Matamata, en route. Major Atkinson is expected here tomorrow to make a tour of the district, returning to Auckland next week.
