On Tuesday morning last, a man named William Dent, who has lately been employed as saddler at the shop of Mr Bates, Cambridge, was arrested by Detective Doolan and lodged in the lockup, under the following circumstances : Dent had been drinking somewhat heavily of late, and on Monday night found his way into the bar of the National Hotel Avhere he was inclined to be a little nonsensical. The barman advised him to go and lie down in an outhouse adjoining Mr Carter's stables among some shaving. The unfortunate nocturnal on awaking from his dreams discovered that the shavings upon which he was lying had caught fire, and not being altogether deprived of his reason and selfcommand, proceeded to extinguish the flames, in which he succeeded. He then went in search of the night watchman, to whom he communicated his adventure. This is Dent's own version of how the fire occured, and may Or may not be accepted as reliable. In the morning the information was communicated to Detective Doolan by the watchman, and Dent was accordignly placed under arrest and lodged in the lock-up.

William Dent was brought before Col. Lyon to-day, charged with being illegally on the premises of one William Wright. He was leprimanded and discharged.
