DESTRUCTIVE FIRE AT GISBORNE. [PER TELEGRAPH.] Gisborne, Last Night.
Otf Sunday night the most destructive fire that ever took place here occurred, destroying property estimated to be worth over L 30,000. About a quarterpast seven o'clock ' flames were seen issuing from beneath the premises occupied by Messrs Graham and Co., wine and spirit merchauts. Before anything could be,done to stop the progress of, the flames, they had extended to the Union Company's offices and the bonded stores ot Carr and Sons. These valuable concrete buildings were erected about five years ago, and cost about L10;000. They contained oil, wool, grass seed, and a large quantity of general merchandise. Carr was one of the Lady Joeelyn's passengers, and had, with his family, recently purchased the premises and started business here. The flames rapidly extended to the premises of Pitt and Bennett, auctioneers, passing to the rear of the Union Bank to Macffarlane's Hall, and presently the Union Bank caught fire, then the offices of Brassey and Fraser, solicitors, Dicksons Argyle Hotel, besides one or two other minor buildings. Page's Masonic Hotel, The Albion, and buildings on the other side of the street, were saved with the greatest difficulty.
