THE ROTORUA ROAD.

The Government are determined to have the Cambridge-Rotorua Road completed as soon as possible, and with this object in view intend calling for tenders for that portion of the road lying between the twenty-mile peg and the Rotorua bush. The importance attached to the completion of this line of road cannot be overrated, inasmuch as it will open a through line of traffic between Auckland and the Lake Country by way of Cambridge. The traffic will be purely that of the tourist. Nearlyall visitorstotheLakesfrom Auckland at present go by steamer to Tauranga, and from thence to Ohinemutu by coach, a journey which occupies two long daya. When the new Rotorua road between Cambridge and Rotorua is completed and in good condition, the through journey from Auckland can be made within the twenty-fonr hours. By leaving town by the Waikato train in the morning Cambridge is reached shortly after 4 o'clock in the afternoon, and by starting the same evening again either on horseback, or in a buggy, the tourist will be able to reach Ohinemutu early the following morning. When the through line is opened, should sufficient inducement be offered, Mr Carter will doubtless run a coach two or three times a week, which would be found considerably cheaper than either hiring a horse or buggy. There are many other considerations which argue in favour of the travelling public adopting this route. After leaving Cambridge the road leads through one of the most picturesque pieces of country in the province. The Patetere country has also to be passed through, and here the wouldbe settler judges for himself of the adaptability of our interior country for settlement purposes. A fine hotel is situate half way, which under good management should be a boon to all passing in that direction.
