TAUPIRI.
There is great sympathy felt here foi Mrs Reddy, our schoolmistress, through the death of her infant, which was aboul three weeks old. Mrs Reddy had to gc to Auckland to attend the teachers examination held there, and left hei infant in charge of the nurse. On Monday the child took sick, and died on Tuesday night. Under the circumstances, Mrs Reddy might have been excused from attending the examination. — The railway station and telegraph office will soon be an accomplished fact. The choice of telegraphist and stationmaster has, I am informed, fallen on Mr "Walter Schotield, late telegraphist at Huntley, where his obliging manner has obtained for him the good wishes of all with whom he came in contact. — Mr Ransom has almost completed a house and workshop for himself, and a new and handsome store, being built for Mr Lovell, will soon add to the appearance of the place. — One of the finest crops of oats I have seen in the Waikato, has just been harvested by Mr Lovell. They are the Black Tartarian, and he expects they will average about 60 bushels to the acre. It is really a magnificent crop, and, being off newly broken ground, it ought to be a great encouragement to owners of laud here to go in more for cereals. — Mr Taylor, who has one of the latest improved reapers, has just started on his annual tour up the Waipa, where he has a deal of cutting to do. — The weather appears to have taken a turn for the better, which will be welcomed by the farmers who have harvesting to do. — Mr Jas. Coombes is making great progress with his Kirikiriroa and Taupiri road contracts.
