LA TEST CANTERBURY NEWS [PER TELEGRAPH.]
Oor Christchurch correspondent wires last night : — A new church on the east belt, capable of seating 900 people, will be opened next Sunday by the Rev. Messrs Reid and Morley. In consequence of the opposition from residents in the vicinity of Cranmer Square, Joubert and Twopenny have withdrawn their application for the use of the square for the International Exhibition. At the limaru Police Court, the charge agaii^t Tubb of alleged larceny of £100 partnership monies, was heard this morning and dismissed. The accused had received £111, and went to "Wellington without telling his partner he was going, but took only £30 with him, leaving £70 with his wife. The partner suspected him of criminal intentions, and laid the information. Eleven lads are summoned for larrikinism on New Year's eve in breaking windows, lifting gates, upsetting offices, &c.
