LA TEST WELLINGTON NEWS. [PER TELEGRAPH.]

Our correspondent wires, last night : — The Parihaka natives are now selling potatoes to the Government ration contractors. The man Tubb, who was arrested on a charge of stealing £100 belonging to the firm of Tubb and Fargns, Timaru, was remanded to Timaru. It is reported on good authority that the Government intend to submit a proposal for another £5,000,000 loan to i Parliament next session. What lends a colour of probability to the report is the announcement made by Mr Bryce at the banquet, that Government contemplates another loan. News has been received from Patea of a fight having taken place between some natives and two Europeans. It occurred at the Whenuakura Hotel, when Kereopa, an ex-constable, was stabbed in the hand, on account of which the other Maoris broke the windows of the hotel and took his part. The affair rose from a drunken squabble. Arguments in the electoral personation case against the Hon. Mr Pharazyn were taken before the Chief Justice this morning. His Honor held that the special verdict was one of guilty, and sentenced the accused to one hours' imprisonment ; the sentence to take effect from the commencement of the session.

The new pure cash, system now being initiated by G. and C. will certainly prove a benefit to the public. It has been a great success in Sydney and Melbourne, and when strictly carried out ■ the customer who buys at an establishment where the goods are marked low to ensure a rapid sale must be a great gainer. G. and C. sell their drapery, millinery, and clothing at such prices for cash as "gives the buyer the advantages of a shareholder _in a co-operative society, without the risk of being called uponio bear aportion of the loss should the year's business prove unsatisfactory. , Garliclc and Cranwell will aim 'to retain the cofidence which the public have hitherto shown them, and are determined to give the pure cash system a fairtrial; whether they gain or lose the first year. Country buyers on remitting cash yfjthorder will be supplied with gopds at co-oneratve prices ; riust the same as though they made apersonalselection.
