Cairo, January 5. It is announced that Arba Bey has been appointed Under-Secretary for War in the Egyptian Ministry.
Washington, January 5. The defence of the prisoner Guiteau has closed, and the trial now stands adjourned to Saturday next.
London, January o. An extensive seizure of arms was made to-day by the police at Killvush, County Clare, Ireland. The Daily News published a statement to the effect that the French Government repudiates the reported annexation oi Raiatea, one of the society islands. Mr Ralph Bernal Osborne, the wellknown politican, aged 68, and Professor John Wills Draper, American scientist, aged 71, are dead.
