SUICIDES AND SUDDEN DEATHS. (BY TELEGRAPH.)
Auckland. — Our correspondent reports : —A melancholy case of suicide occurred at Kawakawa. A man named Joseph Smith, a settler and gumdigger of that place, was last seen Alive on the 9th inst., at the polling for Waitemata. On the 22nd inst. his body was found in a deserted whare in the bush at Kawakawa, about 500 yards, from his own house, hanging by the neck.
Coromandel. — Our correspondent wires : — A man named McColl, a shoemaker by trade, residing in the upper township, was found dead in bed about midnight on Sunday last.
Grahamstown. — Our correspondent wires : — A bussman named John Ryan has just been found dead in his bed at his lodgings in Willoughby-street, Shortland.
Gisborne. —An Association wire reports : — The decision of the jury at the coroner's inquest on the late Dr Percy was that deceased met his death by accidentally taking in mistake the chloroform instead of cough mixture. The funeral to-day was followed by a large concourse of people.
