THE ACCIDENT AT OHAUPO.
A correspondent supplies us with the following version of this occurrence : — " When Messrs Houghton (Oamhridge) and Whytock were returning in a buggy from Te Rore, by way of Ohaupo, oh Wednesday last, an accident which might have been more serious occurred to the buggy when passing H miter's sale-yards. Messrs Bertram, Wilkinson, and Watters were riding their horses at a rapid pace in an opposite direction, when two of them tried to pass the buggy on the wrong side. Mr Bertram's horse came into such violent contact with one of the buggy horses as to smash the pole and swingletrees to pieces, besides other minor damages. The rider, who fell from his horse, was so stunned by tie collision as to lie for some time insensible, having to be carried to the hotel on a stretcher. The occupants of the buggy got off unhurt, and through the kindness of Mr Hunter, (who lent them a pole) were enabled to return to Cambridge. " We are glad to learn since, that the injuries sustained by Mr Bertram are not of such a serious nature as at first anticipated. He had sufficiently recovered the same evening to proceed home to Rangiaohia.
