SALMON IN THE WAIKATO.
The Califoraian salmon ova placed in the Waikato river some years ago by the Auckland Acclimatisation Society, has produced very satisfactory results, so sdtidfactory indeed that the followers of tho gentle Waltonian art will be able next year to indulge in their favorite recreation to an unlimited extent. For some days past Cambridge residents have noticed hundreds of young salmon apparently between three or four pounds in weight, frequenting the bay formed by the confluence of tfio Karapiro with the Waikato, and in the shallows of the former, but so far, although the most strenuous effoits have been made with all kinds of fliei, none of the local anglers have been able to hook their fish. Next year, after another trip to the salt water, lb is calculated the fish will give a weight of 12 or 131bs.
