TRADESMEN'S CALICO BALL, CAMBRIDGE.

The invitation calico ball in honor of S. Andrew's Day came off in the Public Hall, Cambridge, on Wednesday night last. There were about 50 couples present. The stewards, Messrs Watson, Cleaver, Andrews, Bach, Brown, Willis, and Macfarlane, and we might particularise the honorary secretary (Mr A. Bach), were untiring m their exertions to make the event pass off with eclat, aud it must certainly afford great satisfaction to them to know that in this they admirably succeeded. The novelty of the various costumes, with the other necessary features — good music and a capital floor — contributed in a great measure to make the ball successful. It is not too much to say that the hall has never on any previous occasion presented a more enchanting appearance than it did on Wednesday night. A temporary platform, decorated with flags and evergreens, was erected in front of the stage, and the walls and cielings of the building, together with a studiously finished entrance, upon which bunting, laurels, and Chinese lanterns were becomingly and not too ornately displayed, constituted a very pleasing sight indeed. An excellent supper was provided by Mr H. Buckland, to which justice was done. The music w»3 supplied by Messrs , Stuart (clarionet), Jaggs (bass), Brown ' (clarionet), and Booth (cornet), and gave every satisfaction, the selection of the tunes being favorably commented on. Considerable taste was manifested in the { selection of many of the dresses, spmebeing particularly noticeable. Dancing commenced at 8 o'clock, and was kept up with spirit until daylight next morning. MrT. Cleaver, ably performed the duties of '
