ATTEMPTED ASSI NATION OF GUI TEAU, THE MURDERER OF PRESIDENT GARFIELD. (PER CABLE .)
A Eeuter's telegram, dated Washington 19th, inst. reports that the trial of Guiteau the murderer of President Garfield was proceeding and that the late President's vertibra had been produced in Court that clay for the purpose of illustrating the testimony of the medical witnesses. His (Guiteau's) demeanor in Court is reported as having been quite callous. An attempt was made on the prisoner's life to-day as he was being conveyed back to prison, by a mounted man who fired at him with a revolver and wounded him in the hand. The perpetrator of this outrage with the aid of his horse succeeded in effecting his escape and was still at large.
