NATIVE AFFAIRS. (PER TELEGRAPH).
Opunake, Monday evening. — Our correspondent wires : — I accompanied a party of 200 natives to Oeo yesterday. They were met by those brought the day before. A long cry took place. The men looked sullen, and say they will return to Parahaka. It is doubtfnl if Parihaka men will give trouble — but Ngatinuinui (Titikowaru's people) — will require watching. Captain Taylor left for New Plymouth with 173 prisoners, including rome Waikatos. Twenty more whares were pulled down at Parihaka, a guard placed at the bridge south of Opunake to stop any natives crossing without a pass. Pungarehu, Last Nig-ht. Our correspondent wires : To-day arsesting O2)erations continuing. All the natives were sent off to the pah to stop near the grave-yard. There were between 600 and 700 men women and children. Those belonging to Parihaka were allowed to return. It is expected that about 200 will be taken into custody and sent to New Plymouth. Titokowaru who has refused all food for two days, has given in, and asked for kai when Dr. Carroll visited him this morning. He was crying, it is supposed, at finding his powers of endurance so weak that he expected be would be sent to New Plymouth and be charged with some offence, Bryce being of opinion that the settlers in the neighborhood of Manaua would be very uneasy were he at large.
