HIROKI, McLEANS MURDERER IN COURT. (PER TELEGRAPH).

Our New Plymouth correspondent wires last night : — Hiroki was brought up before tho Police Court this morning at 10.30, charged with haviug murdered McLean. Mr Standish with Mr Samuels appeared for the prosecution. The first witness called was Charles Messenger, who deposed that he had seen Hiroki at Parihaka, and in the course of a conversation with him, he (prisoner) told him that when at Monahaki the surveyors had been in the habit of killing his pigs. He had warned them not to kill the pigs several times. On the day of the murder he heard the dogs at his pigs. When he got up to where McLean was he had some words with him about killing the pigs. Hiroki said McLean threatened to shoot him, and if he (prisoner) had not shot McLean, McLean would have shot him. "Witness said Hiroki paraded the gun at a meeting held at Parihaka. Dr. Croft deposed that he made a i^ost mortem examination of the body of McLean. Witness described the wound. The case was adjourned till to-morrow. Our Patea correspondent wires : — The Waitotioe natives relented at a meeting held yesterday (Sunday) and despatched a witness by coach to New Plymouth to-day to give evidence against Hiroki. Another witness is ill but will leave on recovery,
