LATEST AUCKLAND NEWS. (PER TELEGRAPH.)
010 1 R correspondent wires last night : The shop of Mr Gilbert, chemist, near the Albert Hotel, was broken into | last night but nothing was stolen. Mr Gilbert was engaged in the shop till 8 o'clock last night, when he locked up and proceeded home. When the pi-emises were opened this morning he was astonished to find that medicine drawers were all pulled out and either piled on the top of each other on the counter or on the floor. An examination of the premises showed that the burglars had effected an entrance from the rear, the locks of the back door having been picked, Fortunately, Mr Gilbert is in the habit of taking money home with him and the only money leit in, the drawer was two shilling's worth of coppers. A woman named Morley flung herself into the harbour near tho railway shed, leaving her child, a little girl, standing looking on. She was rescued, but her hand had been severely cut. She said her husband had deserted her by the Hero with another woman, and she was determined to end her existence. She was removed to the hospital.
