- The Volunteer Pay. ' l Wellington, List. Night. A meeting of Voluntper officers was held last night in the Parliament Building to consider questions affecting the Volunteer movement. Those present were— Colonel Pearce (in the chair), Majors Weir, B.iillie, M.L.C.. Pitt, Harris, M.H.R.'s, Captain Eaudall Johnson, M.L.C., Hanilin, Hirst, Shanks, Whitaker, Bunnie, M.H.R's, Simpson, McCredie, Crowe, and C. Johnston. Major Pitt moved— "That the officeis present wait upon tho Defence Minister with a view of ascertaining the intentions of Government as to placing the capitation grant on the estimates, and to press upon him the necessity of making provision for continuance of the capitation for the future. " A sub-committee consisting of Messrs Pearce, Bailhe, Randall Johnson, Simpson, Hamliu, ■ aud Hirst was appointed to prepare a series of propositions to submit to the Government on the subject. It was also agreed to wait upon the Government on Monday. Considerable interest amounting to enthusiasm was manifested in the proceedings.
