CAMBRIDGE MUSICAL UNION.

Thih Society celebrated its first meeting by holding a soiree on Monday evening, the 20th inst., in the Town Board rooms. About forty persons sat clown to tea, and did ample justice to the good tilings provided by Mr Trewlieellar. After tea Mr Alfred JSvans took the chair, and stated the object' of holding the soiree, and gave an account of the formation of the Society, which he stated was one for which a want had long been felt, where persons musically inclined might meet for the purpose of practising music of standard mei'it under an efficient conductor, and managed by a committee appointed by the members. — The Rev. W. N. deL. Willis then ' addressed the meeting, and spoke of the importance of such societies and the pleasures which were to be derived from them, and closed with wishing the Society every success. — The Rev. W. Evans followed with a humoious address, tracing bhe procuress of music from early ages down to the present time, and urged upon members the importance of punctual and regular attendance at practice, and expressed his entire approval of the Society. — The Chairman then read, the rules of the Society, and invited any who wished to join, ( to . hand in their names, when twenty-five persons responded and became members. — The proceedings were enlivened at intervals by the following : — Pianoforte solo, "Meeting of the Waters," j Mrs Chitty ; song, ' " Sally in'our Alley," Mr Moore; song, "Robin Adair," Mr 3 Fergusson j song, "Iv Happy Moments," Mr Trew.heellar ; - " Queers of *My" Heart," Mrs'Reesij song, "Nil Despewm* duuV'Mr Trewheellar.— The Rev.
