CRICKET.
Otahuhu 0.0. v. Waikato. This, the first matoh of the series played by our local representatives against our Northern neighbours, came off at Otahuhu on Wednesday, and resulted in a victory for Waikato in the first innings by 1 run, the time not being sufficient to play the game out. The Waikato men had not apparently began lo feel their way until the second innings, when they kuocked their opponent's leather around in a very free style, making 132 for the 10->s of ouly 6 wickets, when the stumps had to be drawn. In the Otahuhu innings the bowling of Stafford was very effective, no le^s than seven wickets becoming his prey. Below are the scores :—: —
Waikato v. Scratch Eleven. The match Waikato v. West End, which was to have come off on the Domain ground on Thursday morning, did nob eventuate through the inability of the West Enders to leave their places of business. A scratch team was, therefore, picked from those clubs that had assembled. The Waikato played twelve men to their opponents' eleven. The Waikato won the toss, and elected to take the wickets. They succeeded in putting 115 together before they were disposed of. Tonka played a steady innings for 3S, including one neat drive for 6, Fifopatrick and Pilling were next best for 20 and 14 respectively. The combined team took the wickets at 4,30. p.m., and had scored 39 for the loss of three wickets before time was called at 5 o'clock. Buckle playing very steadily for 27, (not out), Bobinsori scored 11 very quickly. Subjoined are the scores :—: —
