Auckland CO. v. Waikato. [BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH, OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Auckland, Last Night
The cricket match between the Auckland Cricket Club, commenced in the Domain to-day. Only one innings was played on each side. Auckland won the toss and elected to go to the wickets first, and was not disposed of until luncheon adjournment. They made a good stand, and scored 163. Wood made three catches. Stafford, Wood, Tonks, Stubbing and Pilling ail bowled. Fit/patiick met with a nasty accident while wicketkeeping which will prevent him lrom piaymg in other matches. One of Woods' balls struck him close to the eye, inflicting a bad gash, and he had to go to the Hospital to have it sewn lip. He went in as one ot the Waikato representatives, after the adjournment, but the eye bandages were so much that he could not see. After making a short stand he lifted the ball to poiut, where it was held by Beale. Smith batted steadily for 11, then played one of Buckland's balls off the bat to the wicket. Tonks also made a good stand for 14, hitting freely, but was clean bowled by .Robinson. Sheath also played a good innings. The other wickets fell rapidly, and the innings closed for 64. The team play the Combined Auckland Eleven to-morrow, and go back on Monday. The following are the scores :—: —

To>sk a man to pay is as easily said as dun. A Shark seven feet long was caught at the Oamaru breakwater last week. Paper is now used for car wheels. It has been used for tracts for a long time. Mr Paeis, Civil Commissioner, contradicts the statement that contagious disease is prevailing at Parihaka, and that the statement about 60 deaths is in* correct.
