Sunday School picnic at Cambridge.

The children attending the Church of Eugland, Presbyterian, and Wesleyan Sunday Schools at Cambridge, were entertained at a picnic on New Year's Day, in a paddock at Gwynnelands, generously provided by Mrs A. A. Fantham who personally did much towards the success of the outing. The pupils were conveyed to the acene of the festivities in waggons, buggies, and traps kindly lent by the townsfolk and the neighboring settlers, and on arrival a programme of sports, consisting of racing, jumping, rounders &c. &c, was commenced, lasting through the afternoon, and affording the utmost delight to the little ones, of whom between 300 and 400 were present. Besides the children there were a large number of adult visitors, teachers and others, bringing up the total attendance to about 700. The weather was well adapted for the purpose, being cloudy and not too warm while the few acres of bush contained in the paddock provided a retreat for those of a contemplative mood. About 5 o'clock all were summoned to the tents on the edge of the bush and plentifully regaled with tea, cake, sandwiches and other adjuncts to a well appointed picnic, a start being made for home about six, the children appearing to be thoroughly delighted with the treat. Too much praise cannot be accorded to those who organised the entertainment, among whom the ministers of the several churches were the most prominent, although of courst they were ably seconded by the members of their congregations. The Cambridge Band was present under the able conductorship of Mr. C. D. Mackintosh and contributed very much to the enjoyment of what must be regarded as the most successful picnic ever held in the Cambridge district.
