Promenade Concert.

The concert in aid^of, thj?. Hamilton East School Pri'o Fund, held in Mr Cumming's grounds, (Rosemont), on Saturday evening, was a decided success. The garden was, beautifully illuminated -with, phinese'j lanterns dotted here and there amongst the trees. In the centre, of the .gurden a stage was' erected for those who took part in the, programme, and seats were placed around for tfie comfort of the visitors. The atten ianee wasjarge, and the result must have been highly gratifying to the promoters of the concert.' The Hamilton Light Infantry Band were present, under the able leadership of M. Calon, and played a variety of music in a very credit; able manner. It was a little after 8 o'clock when the concert commenced, but so smoothly did everything work that it passed off without a single hitch and at the conclusion everyone seemed well pleased with the entertainment. Mr and Mrs Cumming, assisted by a number of friends, exerted themselves to the utmost to make the entertainment a success, and they must have been highly pleased with the result. The programme had to be amended considerably owing to several of those who had promised to take part being unavoidably kept away. Nevertheless, the selections were admirably given and thoroughly appreciated. The amended programme was as follows : —Song, Mr Meacham; "In happy moments," Mr Ormerod; song, "Nancy Left," Mr Laishley ; song, "My old friend John" and (encored) "Though fortune over her darkly frowns," Mr H. Edgecumbe; song, "In the gloaming," Mrs Mofflin. This was charmingly rendered, and in response to a unanimous encore the same lady gave with great expression and feeling the song " Cleansing fires;" song, "Hearts of oak," Mr A. Swarbrick; song and chorus "Pour out the Bhein wine," Mr Ormerod; song, "Ring out wild bells," Mr J. W. H. Wood; song, "The friar of orders gray," Mr H. Edgecumbe; comic song, "It makes a man look such a fool," Mr Johnson; comic song, with chorus, "At the bottom of the deep blue sea," Mr Laishely ; song and chorus, Mr N. Hunt ; song, Mr Field. Mr T. A. Bell conducted, and with Mr Calon played the accompaniments. Among the selections {>layed by the Band -were : " The Marsaaise," "Nancy Lee," aud at the conclusion the "National Anthem." The whole affair was exceedingly enjoyable, and it is much to be regretted that during the summer months, entertainments of this nature are not more frequent.
