TE AROHA.
The Miner of Saturday reports :—: — Prospectors'. — We are pleased to hear that a great improvement has taken place in the country in the lower tunnel, the ground being much easier. The sandstone is of a kind likely to bear auriferous quartz, being highly mineralised. The manager has completed the smithy, which saves a lot of time and labor. Work was started in the No. 1 leader to-day. A large amount of timber is on hand for continuing the winze. The lower tunnel is now in about 42 feet. Te Aroha No. 1 South. — The manager (Mr Gavin) is pushing on the two drives. In both the country is favorable to rapid driving. Our Boys. — This claim, which lies to the east of the Prospectors', is owned by four lads from the Thames and Ohinemuri, and they are opening up the ground in a workmanlike manner. They have a drive in 15 feet through hard country. Smile of Fortune. — The shareholders (Arnold and party) have put their drive in 40 feet, through broken country, and found loose quartz bearing gold. In panning oil* some of this they discovered small but rich specimens and loose gold. They are pushing ahead to get into solid country, and expect to pick up the Horning Star lode within (iO feet. Morning- Star. — The lode is being cut in different places on the surface. In the drive operations have been temporarily suspended for timbering. It is not yet out of broken country. Two men have been put on to cut a lode from which good dish prospects were obtained iv a claim on the north-east boundary — United (Gribble's.)— The main tunnel, which is as large ab the Moanatairi at the Thames, is now in ten or twelve feet. It is very heavily timbered, and we believe that the shareholders think if. will eventually be the main outlet for chat portion of the field. About oO feet fuither will have to be driven to intersect the lode. — Golden Anchor. — Christie and party have started a drivp on the lode, 20 feet below where the gold was discovered, aud still meet with good prospects. Yesterday morning they forwarded a trial parcel to the Thames for treatment. "We undeistand that a quarter share in the claim changed hands the other day for £20. — Te Aroha No. 2 South.— Colours of <*old continue to be heen in the leader as driven on. It is probable that a parcel will shortly be sent to the Thames for treatment. The leader is from four to tix inches thick, and may turn out to be a continuation of the Prospectors' — Bonanza. — A tunnel is being started on the leader near the southern boundary of the Prospectors'. The leader is eight or nine inches in thickness, and is the same from "which Mclntyre and Fergus&on took some specimens. The Magnet. — A drive has been started, and good progress is being made. Who'd Have Thought It. — A drive has been started from the creek to intersect the lode at a lower lovel. They saw some gold above. A number of natives are prospecting at Waiharakiki. We have not yet heard of any discoveries in that direction. The following additional notices of pegging out have been lodged at the Warden's Office : — Duke of Cambridge, 14 men's ground, on flagstaff hill and bounded on north west by All Nations, Long and party. Pride of the West, five men's ground on west by Morning Star and south by Rose of Denmark, McConnachie and party. Blue Jacket, six men's ground, on creek Te Puta, Reynolds and party Black Angel, 15 men's ground, south side of Omahu scrub and Catrans' claim. The Light of day, six men's ground, on Omahu Creek and bounded south by the Omahu claim, Harris and party. Gladstone, four men's ground, on third spur south of Prospectors', Gordon and party. Empress of India, 15 men's ground, situated at Omahu Creek, east of Catran's claim, William Joy and party.
MORNING STAB MEETING. The shareholders of the Morning Star held a meeting at the residence of Hone Waraheko last evening, Mr A. Porter in the chair. There was a full attendance. A call of £5 per share was made, and it was decided to have the ground surveyed and a lease taken out. If possible, arrangements will be made with adjacent mines to jointly drive a main tunnel.
THE TOWNSHIP EXTENSION. The extension of the Government township at Te Aroha has just been surveyed, and there is great competition for the allotments. This portion of the township is situated in a most eligible position, being in close proximity to the site of the proposed bridge over the Waihou.
THE PROSPECTORS' CLAIM. It was understood that the Prospectors would commence sinking a winz on the reef yesterday (Monday).
THE MORNING STAR. The prospects in this claim are improving, a good deal of loose coarsp gold has been found, and it is intended to send abont six or seven tons of stuff to Graharostown, for a trial crushing at an eax'ly date. A trial crushing of a small parcel of stuff fr<>m Christie's Claim gave a re urn at the rate of 4 ozs. to the ton. The gold is believed to be worth about £3 per cm.
